April Pictures: Cats and Yarn Edition
Apr. 15th, 2019 10:17 pmStuff I've been working on since the last time I did one of these:
I finished off the matching hat made with the initial yarn of hubris and poor decisions that is better than it has any right to be (otherwise known as Percy). It's stretchy enough that it can be fairly snug against my head, but I can also fit all of my hair in it if I need to. The decrease didn't look as nice as I hoped it would, but I was making up the entire pattern as I was going along, so I figured it turned out all right.

Thanks, domo-kun.
Then I decided to use some chroma that had been hanging out in my stash for a few years and make a wingspan - only wingspan is meant to be a fingering weight pattern and the chroma I had is worsted. Luckily, wingspan is written with the expectation that people might want to futz with the pattern - IE, telling you if you change the stitch count in A, you will change this thing about the pattern - so I played around with it until I got the size and ratio that I like. It's going to be fun and a little spiky, but pretty cool:
Meanwhile, on the spinning end of things, I finished cable plying the gray to itself. Originally I'd planned to ply it with the two blue yarns I have on the bobbins as singles for ~*~thematic~*~ purposes, but also felt like it was a little too close to the percy yarn. Also, the critical role themed yarn project is on hold for a bit, since the original purpose of that was to branch out and use different color combos, and I just found myself nearly recreating the same yarn. (The blue-black yarn was the stuff that was dying my hands blue a few months ago, FYI). The lighter cobalt stuff was fantastic, both color-wise and has this great shine:
About 150 yards, DK weight. No clue as to the fiber content, since I purchased a ball of it for cheap in the middle of purchasing a lot of other stuff and it was unlabeled (I'm sort of hoping the same seller will be back at Shepherd's harvest next month so I can figure out what I purchased from her). It still needs to be washed and thwacked, but I didn't even bother trying to find the yarn's best angle - I'm just happy it came out mostly even and love the texture the dappling effect seems to give the yarn.
I'm currently working on some fiber I purchased while on vacation in Western Mass, and it sure is pretty:
On the cat front: our hardware store gets chicks and ducklings in during the spring. Which are great - Dan spent like a week finding excuses to get coffee, visit the chicks and ducklings at the hardware store, and then buy, like, one keychain. Our hardware store also has two kittens, nut and bolt - so if you're wondering what Bolt is staring at in the picture, it's the tub of chicks underneath her. I wish I'd gotten a picture of both of them when I first walked in - both of them were staring directly at tub . But alas, I took a second to pet the cats before taking their picture.
Also, here's Silvers last week being looking out our front window to see who is coming (hint: it was us):
